Rotary Youth Empowered by TimeBanking

Rotary Youth Empowered by TimeBanking
As Rev. Jennifer Bailey reminds us, “Relationships are built at the speed of trust, and social change happens at the speed of relationships.” My journey with Rotary and TimeBanking reflects this truth. After connecting with a TimeBanker in a virtual event, I joined Youth TimeBanking, which offered me low-stakes collaboration that grew into enduring relationships. Through it, I learned new skills like Canvas and Photovoice, received a vertical gardening kit to help incapacitated individuals grow food with ease, and experienced the power of sharing talents while receiving support. Guided by Edgar Cahn’s wisdom, “we have what we need if we use what we have,” I grew in humility, gratitude, and generosity as a young leader. These experiences shaped my leadership and prepared me to serve as a youthful Rotary President. Youth TimeBanking also opened doors to collaborate with NABU on Rotary’s Digital Bridge project and provided me with coding kits to teach digital skills even where basic equipment is lacking. For me, TimeBanking has become more than an exchange system, it is a platform to empower, connect, and inspire lasting change.
