"I can't do anything"

"I can't do anything"
Almost everyone I talk to about time banking says, "but I can't do anything". I tell them this story:
I was at a time bank potluck years ago when a new member stood up for her introduction. She said, "I can't do anything special... I guess I could offer to go for a walk with an elderly relative. You know, maybe someone with dementia or something could walk with me and that could give the caretaker a break." I scoffed inwardly thinking, "Who would want a walking buddy?" Then I looked at my wheelchair and thought about how _I_ wanted to have a companion to walk with me! I walk unstably with a walker but REALLY wanted to go for walks in the neighborhood! I did time bank exchanges with that woman as long as the weather held out. Now, I have a large group of members that I exchange with to walk!
