Story: On August 17, 2003, Eleanor (Ella) Angela Barrett Bidwell, the first Time Dollar baby, was born in Maine! The proud parents are Monique Barrett and Keith Bidwell.
When Monique, a Time Dollar member, learned she was pregnant, she remembered that a group of midwives were getting ready to join the Portland Time Bank. She contacted Stacy Brenner at Back Cove Midwives to see if they would be willing to accept Time Dollars for her per visit co-payment. They agreed and the rest is history!
The midwives so enjoyed the experience that they have decided to provide their services to two uninsured pregnant moms every year for payment with Time Dollars! They will continue to accept Time Dollars as a co-payment for those moms who are insured.
The Time Dollar family continues to grow and breathe new life into communities throughout Maine, New England, the U.S. and the world! And we have only just begun!
